I reach for this Natural Cleaning Spray so many times each day it’s not even funny. It’s completely natural, easy to throw together and so much less expensive than other natural cleaners!
I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner.
I probably thought it ‘d be a lot more complicated and expensive, but replacing the store-bought countertop and bathroom cleaners I’d been using with homemade versions has saved me so much money.

Seriously.
A 23oz spray bottle of natural cleaner runs you at least $5, and with as much time as I spend in the kitchen, I am constantly wiping down my counters and table.
Over the last year or so I’ve been slowly replacing some of our household items with homemade versions and I can definitely tell a difference in our spending.
After my homemade deodorant recipe, this one has been the most noticeable and positive change.
What You’ll Need For A Natural Cleaning Spray
- White vinegar. One of the things that made me hesitate with making my own cleaners was wondering Do they actually work? It can be tough to get out of our modern mindsets and put our trust in old-fashioned things. But since looking into how things like vinegar and essential oils work to break down not only dirt and grease but also microbes and bacteria I am totally comfortable natural cleaners around my house.
- Essential Oils. You knew it was coming. They’re all the rage in natural circles. But there’s good reason for that. Oils like clove, tea tree, sweet orange, cedar and even lavender have different antimicrobial, antibacterial and antiseptic properties, as well as cutting through grease and grime (especially so in the case of the citrus family).
- Water. I use filtered water because we have an R.O. water filter installed so it’s easy and then I don’t have to worry about hardwater leaving streaks or residue. But basically any water will do!
- A spray bottle. Amber glass is technically best because essential oils can break down plastic. But I used a plastic bottle for a long time with no problems since I’m not ingesting this product or applying it to my body.

Tips And How-To
- Use a funnel. Seems simple because it is, but this will save you frustration.
- Don’t worry about following the exact amounts and using each and every oil in my blend. I use these because they’re all great for cleaning and they smell great in combination but you can make up for one with another, swap lemon for orange, and so on.
- Another reason I love this spray is because I feel good about letting my kids help with the cleaning. My toddler’s favorite activity is spraying things XD so I give her a bottle and a rag and let her go a little crazy on the dining table.
- One thing to note here is that I have good ol’ Formica countertops and so have never had to worry about acidic cleaners eroding my glorious marble slabs or anything like that. Double check what’s recommended for your countertops and other surfaces.
- Another thing I wondered about when considering making my own cleaners was Will I groan every time I run out? Will I actually stick with making this all the time? I am here to tell you that it is the easiest thing in the world. Whenever I get to the bottom of a bottle, I grab a handful of things and refill right then and there, no big deal. Takes maybe 2 minutes and I’m never tempted to go back to buying ready-made spray.
Give It A Try
You’re going to love this Natural Cleaning Spray. I know sometimes switching to homemade versions can be intimidating. Sometimes there’s even an upfront investment. But with this spray you could easily just grab 2 of the essential oils listed to being with, a cheap spray bottle, and I bet you already have white vinegar.
If you’re in the process of switching things for a more natural lifestyle, this is an easy one to tackle. You’ll be so glad on your next trip to the store that you don’t have to grab yet another bottle of cleaning spray. Not to mention all the plastic you’re not buying!
Little by little you can make easy swaps like this and it will just be another part of your routine. Before you know it your house will be filled with handmade cleaners, detergents, beauty products and more. Not only will it save you money, but will also give you peace of mind. You’re doing something wonderful and healthy for your family.
