If you’re tired of the same old smoothie, try these cherry kefir popsicles to switch things up! With just a few ingredients, a blender and some popsicle molds (or even paper cups!) you can make this fun summer treat.
We’re an ‘ingredients household’.
If you’re unfamiliar with this phrase, it basically means a household that keeps the basics stocked but doesn’t keep ready-to-eat packaged foods on hand.
The pro is you eat almost entirely homemade, healthy foods. The con is if you’re ‘feeling snacky’, you gotta start from scratch to fix your cravings.

Is Making Homemade Popsicles Worth It?
Obviously, in my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons. It takes a little getting used to, but for the most part you can get in the rhythm of making snacks and treats so no one feels deprived. And that’s where these popsicles come in.
To be really transparent with you guys, not going out for ice cream multiple times a week is a struggle for us :’D
And it’s not just for health reasons that we have to limit these excursions.
As a family of 5, one trip to a local ice cream parlor is upwards of $30 these days!
We love the experience of ice cream as well as the treat itself so we need a way to replace this habit- not just go cold turkey.
Even using high quality ingredients, the cost of a batch of homemade popsicles is a fraction of what it’d be at an ice cream shop.

How To Make These Kefir Popsicles

- If using paper cups, simply tear and peel off.
- Find a sunny spot and enjoy š

Why Kefir?
You can read all about kefir and how to make it in this post.
We love kefir because it’s a fun, inexpensive way to get in tons of probiotics.
It’s also a great source of calcium, protein, B vitamins and more. Fermenting dairy is so beneficial for bioavailability and gut health.
You can also use it soak grains, make things like sour cream and much more. In short, with kefir you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Tips For Kefir Popsicles
- Tweak to your taste. The healthiest of healthy recipes is of no use to you if no one will eat it! If you taste test and it seems too tart, add more honey or some frozen bananas. If it’s too sweet, add more kefir. Maybe it needs a dash of cinnamon or a pinch of sea salt to balance the taste.
- Make a swap. If you’re avoiding non-fermented dairy right now, use a high quality almond milk, coconut milk or even juice. If you like the idea of kefir pops but don’t love cherry, go for frozen strawberries, blueberries or another favorite fruit.
- Be sure the popsicles are fully frozen. If you think the popsicle molds aren’t working and you’re about to pull your hair out, you might just need to let them freeze longer. Try one and if it doesn’t release, don’t try any others. Wait another two hours and try again. You can briefly run molds under hot water to help release them, but do so carefully.
